Dave the Diver — All Boss Fights

From the Giant Squid to the cosmic Yawie — every boss in Dave the Diver with detailed strategies, phase breakdowns, and recommended gear, based on actual player data.

Giant Squid
Giant Squid
Chapter 2 · Mid Depths
The first major boss — a massive squid guarding the passage to deeper waters. Attacks with tentacle slams and ink clouds that obscure your vision.
Strategy: Use the Tranq Dart to stun it, then target its eyes for critical damage. When it releases an ink cloud, swim away quickly — you cannot see attacks coming. Bring at least 3 healing items. A level 2+ harpoon makes this fight significantly easier.
Klaus, the Great White Shark
Klaus, the Great White Shark
Chapter 4 · Deep Zone — Cavern via water vortex
A legendary great white shark terrorizing the deep, named Klaus. An aggressive hunter with devastating charge attacks and a telltale roar before each rush.
Strategy: Stay mobile — Klaus telegraphs charges with a distinctive roar. Swim perpendicular to dodge. A Poison Harpoon helps immensely — poison deals damage over time while you focus on dodging. Use the Sniper Rifle for precision headshots. Defeating Klaus triggers a cutscene with Clara.
John Watson
Chapter 4 (Multiple Encounters) · Various
A recurring antagonist fought multiple times. The first encounter requires patience — wait for openings. The second fight is in a mech diving suit; grab the baseball bat from the weapon cache below.
Strategy: First fight: be patient and counterattack only when openings appear. Second fight: John has a mech suit — swim down to grab the baseball bat from the weapon cache at the bottom. The third encounter is a cutscene, not a boss fight.
Mantis Shrimp

Chapter 4 (Optional Side Quest) · Mid Depths Caves
An optional boss with lightning-fast claw strikes. You cannot damage him while his guard is up. Watch for wind-up punches — his reach is deceptively long.
Strategy: Memorize his stance changes to anticipate attacks. His guard goes down briefly after each punch combo — that is your window. A weapon cache is beneath you. The Tranq Dart can slow him down.
Truck Hermit Crab
Truck Hermit Crab
Chapter 5 · Deep Zone
A giant hermit crab with a truck shell that makes it invulnerable to conventional weapons. Requires creative use of the environment.
Strategy: Conventional weapons cannot damage its truck shell. You must use environmental objects to break the shell. Collect O2 tanks before the battle starts — oxygen depletion is a serious concern in this extended fight.
Kronosaurus
Kronosaurus
Chapter 5 · Glacial Area
An ancient aquatic dinosaur and possibly the hardest boss in the game. Hits like a freight train with attacks that are extremely difficult to avoid.
Strategy: This is a tough DPS race. The Kronosaurus has few attacks, but each one hits extremely hard and depletes significant oxygen. Maintain focus, dodge relentlessly, and throw everything you have at it. Max gear is strongly recommended.
Yawie (Colossal Anomalocaris)
Yawie (Colossal Anomalocaris)
Chapter 6 — Final Boss · Abyss — Sea Blue
The final boss — a colossal prehistoric "abnormal shrimp" (Anomalocaris) with 4 distinct phases. Each phase introduces new attacks and mechanics.
Strategy: Phase 1-2: You receive a new weapon that transforms the fight into a side-scrolling shooter. Keep firing and dodging. Phase 3-4: Adds a powerful slow laser beam — stay mobile and use cover. Learn each phase transition to prepare for the new attack patterns.
Giant Gadon
Giant Gadon
Post-Game · Abyss Depths
A Lovecraftian chase sequence through dark halls, not a traditional fight. Navigate tight corridors while being pursued by an unstoppable force.
Strategy: This is a chase sequence reminiscent of Little Nightmares — keep moving forward and do not miss the QTEs. There is no combat; your only goal is survival and navigation. Max oxygen recommended for the long transit.
